- Insects are easy to train, very robust, have almost robotic strength and can be bred at very low cost on the scale of mass-production. The advantage of involving an insect as a living sensor is you can create a relationship with it, by watching its behavior and seeing it's alive rather than just reading data output or detecting color change. The insect as sensor can become an entity of trust - rather than something you might shy away from or even be repulsed by.
This project consists of a set of tools that provide a framework to create a language for facilitating new insect/human interactions. The products redirect the insect's purpose into something human. Animals are used in the military for detecting explosives, drugs and there is a lot of new research in the area of health. In the future these products could facilitate new interactions, potentially used for mating desires and preferences or other valuable services that will create a new intimate relationship between the bug and you.
